Bijou is a dual-qualified (UK/Australia) commercial litigator with a particular focus on class actions.

Bijou attended university at the University of Cambridge in the UK, where she was awarded multiple prizes for outstanding performance in Law. She went on to train in London at Linklaters LLP. She is now based in Melbourne after practising in London and Sydney.

Bijou is an experienced commercial litigator with a range of experience across multiple sectors and jurisdictions. Her current practice focuses on large complex disputes and class actions.

Bijou a member of the Melbourne office’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is leading the firm’s first Diversity & Inclusion mentoring initiative.

Bijou advises clients in a range of industries, including financial and professional services, and has extensive experience in litigation and dispute resolution including:

  • Acting for an ASX listed company their defence of misleading and deceptive conduct claims;
  • Advising an Australian financial institution in the preparation for and attendance at a s 19 ASIC examination;
  • Advising ASX listed clients in relation to insurance policy wording issues;
  • Acting on behalf of farmers and irrigators from the Riverina area of NSW in representative proceedings involving negligence claims against the Murray Darling Basin Authority;
  • Acting on behalf of shareholders in a class action against the former directors, officers and auditors of a previously ASX listed company alleging contraventions of continuous disclosure obligations.

 

Background

Bijou holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2017.

Bijou trained with Linklaters LLP in London prior to moving to Australia where she was admitted to practice in Victoria, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia in 2020.

Bijou is a native French and Mauritian Creole speaker, and is fluent in English.
