Ran's practice covers a variety of matters with a focus on cross-border M&As. Ran has assisted clients who conduct business in the Japanese and Chinese markets in matters including foreign direct investment, withdrawal (including labour issues in dissolution), antitrust law matters (including merger filings and cartel investigations), dispute resolution, antidumping and general corporate matters.

Ran's experience includes assisting:

• a PRC home appliances brand in purchasing the controlling shares in a Japanese automotive parts company as the sponsor in a business revitalization ADR procedure*
• a PRC electronics company in its capital investment into a Japanese company and their business alliance in advanced display technologies*
• a Japanese insurer in purchasing the minority shares in a PRC state-controlled life insurance company*
• a Japanese chemical materials company in acquiring a global bio-tech company listed on the Taipei Exchange through reverse triangular merger*
• a Japanese retail group in relation to significant joint venture disputes*

Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Ran worked for a major Japanese law firm in Tokyo. Before that, she worked in the same firm's Beijing office.
