Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted three partners in Asia, as part of its annual global partnership promotions.
The Asia appointments are part of a global 21-partner promotion round, announced by the firm today.
The new Asia partners, effective 1 May 2017, are:
- HANNAH CASSIDY, Financial Services Regulatory, Hong Kong
- GLYNN COOPER, Corporate, Kuala Lumpur
- FATIM JUMABHOY, Employment, Pensions and Incentives, Singapore

"These promotions reflect our continued growth in practices and platform in Asia, and also demonstrate the strength of our homegrown talent."
Hannah Cassidy becomes the firm's second dedicated financial services regulatory partner in Asia, working alongside Will Hallatt, responding to the continued demand for advice in this area from financial institutions.
Cross-border transaction specialist Glynn Cooper will be based in the firm’s newest office in Kuala Lumpur, due to open in May 2017. His practice covers M&A, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and the investment aspects of project developments.
Operating across Asia's many jurisdictions creates a web of employment issues for companies, an area in which Fatim Jumabhoy specialises, advising both Asian and international clients from her base in Singapore.

HANNAH CASSIDY, Financial Services Regulatory, Hong Kong
Hannah advises financial institutions on regulatory policy, operations and investigations. Her clients include international and regional financial institutions in the investment banking, retail banking, wealth management, asset management and insurance sectors. Her detailed understanding of UK, EU and Asian regulatory regimes is particularly invaluable to institutions working across international borders.
On 1 May 2017, Hannah will become a Senior Foreign Registered Lawyer in Hong Kong, pending the necessary local regulatory approvals for her promotion to partner.
GLYNN COOPER, Corporate, Kuala Lumpur
Glynn advises clients on complex cross-border transactions, particularly in the infrastructure and related sectors (including transport, energy and resources) and in the financial institutions sector. His practice covers M&A, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and the investment aspects of project developments. From his new base in Kuala Lumpur, he will assist the firm’s Malaysian and global clients with outbound investments from, and inbound investments into, Malaysia.
Prior to his relocation to Kuala Lumpur, Glynn practised in London and in Australia. He joined Herbert Smith Freehills in Australia from a leading firm in London, where he advised on some of the largest and most complex transactions ever undertaken in the UK and globally. Glynn is admitted to practice in England and Wales and in Queensland, Australia, and is a registered foreign lawyer in Malaysia.
FATIM JUMABHOY, Employment, Pensions and Incentives, Singapore
Fatim's practice focuses on cross-border and multijurisdictional employment advice, working with local and international clients to create regionally consistent yet locally compliant approaches across Asia. A law graduate of the University of Birmingham, UK, Fatim is admitted to practice in England & Wales and as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore.
In the last year, the firm's Asia practice also welcomed leading arbitration practitioner Kathryn Sanger, who joined as a partner in Hong Kong in October 2016.
