ICC APPOINTS JUSTIN D'AGOSTINO AS MEMBER IN HONG KONG

Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Justin D'Agostino has been appointed as an alternate member for Hong Kong of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Justin, who is the Hong Kong-based Global Head of the Herbert Smith Freehills' Dispute Resolution Practice and the firm's Regional Managing Partner for Asia and Australia, has been appointed to serve from 1 July 2017.  For a full list of new members, click  here.

New members of the Court were appointed during a meeting of the ICC’s supreme governing body, the World Council.

Commenting on his appointment, Justin said: "I am honoured to have been appointed as an alternate member for Hong Kong of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC.  The importance of arbitration to the fair and efficient resolution of disputes increases year on year.  The ICC – the world's largest business organisation – plays a vital role internationally in relation to the promotion and use of dispute resolution and is one of a handful of world class institutions at the forefront of the development of arbitration."

Considered by Chambers Asia-Pacific as "one of the few true experts in international arbitration", Justin has established a market-leading reputation. He appears before tribunals all over the world, advises on arbitration-related court proceedings and sits as arbitrator. He also advises on the protection of foreign investments under international law.

Justin is a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing, and was a member of the sub-committee of the Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong which reviewed the law on Third Party Funding in Arbitration.

Issues around diversity are also top of the agenda for Justin.  He is a member of the steering committee working to promote the Pledge for Equal Representation in Arbitration in recognition of the under-representation of women on international arbitral tribunals.  Justin was also named LGBT Executive Sponsor 2016 by Community Business, which recognised him as a senior executive who has used his influence to promote LGBT inclusion and since 2013 has been listed in the Financial Times as one of the leading "OUTstanding Executives", which recognises professionals who have made a difference in the LGBT community.
