Herbert Smith Freehills wins two trophies at The Lawyer Awards 2023

Herbert Smith Freehills has won Energy & Infrastructure Team of the Year and Real Estate Team of the Year at The Lawyer Awards 2023, which took place in London on 20 June 2023.

The Energy & Infrastructure Team of the Year award recognised the firm's work advising the lenders in relation to the €2.8 billion financing of the 725km, 1.4 GW NeuConnect interconnector project between the UK and Germany. One of the first interconnectors in Europe to be project-financed, NeuConnect will be one of the longest interconnectors in the world and create the first direct link between the UK and Germany, two of Europe’s largest energy markets.

The Real Estate Team of the Year award celebrated the firm's role acting for British Land on the Canada Water development in London, and which involved teams from across the firm's real estate, planning/environment, construction, public law, energy and infrastructure, tax, finance and corporate practices.

In addition, Herbert Smith Freehills was commended in the Corporate Team of the Year category for its work advising OneWeb, a low earth orbit (LEO) broadband satellite communications company, in relation to its proposed combination with Eutelsat Communications, a listed French satellite and telecommunications company.

The firm was also shortlisted in the Finance Team of the Year category for its work advising Hipgnosis Songs Fund on a new five-year revolving credit facility with a commitment of US$700 million.
