Dani is a commercial litigator and retail banking lawyer who specialises in contentious financial services regulatory cases.

Dani’s experience as both a litigator and a retail banking lawyer enables her to seamlessly guide clients through all stages of a financial services regulatory case, including investigation, breach reporting, regulator engagement, customer remediation, process improvements, enforcement action and court proceedings. She has a strong track record of helping clients meet their regulatory obligations, engage productively with regulators and efficiently resolve their cases.

Dani has particular experience in matters involving responsible lending issues, the AFSL and Australian Credit Licence regimes (including breach-reporting obligations), AML/CTF laws (including “know your customer” requirements) and privacy laws (including the notifiable data breaches regime).

Dani is also a general commercial litigator who has represented clients in a variety of complex commercial disputes, in industries such as superannuation, building, technology, insurance, logistics and retail. She is adept at managing teams, working collaboratively with clients and using eDiscovery tools to ensure litigation is conducted efficiently and effectively.

Dani has spent time on secondment to a major bank and one of Australia’s largest car finance suppliers.

Clients have described Dani as “easy to work with” and said that “her cognitive skills and intellect are first class, as is her knowledge of financial services law”.

Dani’s key experience includes acting for:

  • A major Australian bank,  as lead Senior Associate on the ACCC’s Mortgage Pricing Inquiry
  • A major Australian bank in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry
  • One of Australia’s largest car finance suppliers in ASIC’s inquiry into the motor finance industry
  • A leading Australian gaming company in a successful application to the Australian Competition Tribunal for authorisation of its merger
  • A superannuation fund trustee in Supreme Court proceedings involving questions of interpretation and rectification affecting various classes of members in a defined-benefit corporate superannuation fund

 

Background

Dani has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Queensland, and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of New South Wales. In her Master’s degree she received Dean’s List Commendations for topping the class in 3 of 6 subjects.
