Olga is an Associate and Solicitor Advocate in our international arbitration practice.

Olga specialises in international commercial and investment arbitration, and has experience acting for corporates and financial institutions in international disputes under various arbitration rules such as LCIA, SIAC, UNCITRAL and ICSID.

Olga's experience includes advising:
 

  • a Kazakh oil and gas company on various issues arising out of its contractual and licence arrangements
  • Nord Stream 2 AG in an ongoing claim against the European Union under the Energy Charter Treaty. This claim, which relates to the impact of new European Union legislation on a major gas pipeline, is the first investment arbitration brought against the European Union
  • a multinational commodity trading company in an LCIA arbitration in relation to alleged defects in shipping fuel provided pursuant to a trading contract and related Part 86 proceedings in the English High Court
  • a Russian bank in an LCIA arbitration relating to an English law governed share and purchase agreement on a sale of shares in a Ukrainian subsidiary, including defending emergency arbitration proceedings commenced by the counterparties under the LCIA rules
  • an Indonesian company in a SIAC arbitration concerning a contract to develop a coal mine in Indonesia, including defending a joinder application under the SIAC rules
  • a UK public listed company at a pre-action stage of English High Court proceedings in connection with a related arbitration
  • Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) in an ICSID arbitration relating to a power station in Tanzania

Background

Olga holds a Bachelor of Laws (with honours) and a Master of Laws (with honours) from MGIMO University (Moscow, Russia) with a focus on international Law and international financial Law, and an LLM from the University of Cambridge, with a focus on international investment law and international commercial litigation. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Olga worked as a lawyer in Russia specialising in commercial law.  Olga is proficient in both spoken and written English and Russian. She also has a conversational level of German and French.
