Islamic Finance News (IFN) Law Awards recognised Herbert Smith Freehills as Best Law Firm for Asset Management at the 2017 awards ceremony held at The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC on 11 March 2018.
IFN cited the firm’s strong performance across the asset management and funds sectors, including achieving "two outstanding benchmarks", namely advising Griffon Capital (Cayman Islands) in launching an open-ended fund focused on investment in publicly traded securities listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange and advising Arqaam Islamic Funds on the establishment of a Shari'ah-compliant open-ended investment fund incorporated in the Dubai International Financial Centre.
The IFN Law Awards rewards the best legal firms with Islamic finance capabilities and services, taking into consideration the firm's inventive and progressive spirit in terms of expansion, innovation, impact and development.
Zubair Mir, Middle East Managing Partner and Head of Corporate, commented:
"We are delighted to have won this prestigious award for our work in the Islamic Finance sector. These innovative and ground breaking transactions further reflect our practice's pre-eminent leading position in the region for complex transactions."
The firm also received honourable mentions in the Offshore - Finance category.
This award follows a series of industry-wide accreditations for the Middle East Corporate team. Earlier this year, the team won the Best Law Firm Services Award at the MENA Fund Manager Services Awards, for the third consecutive year.
