Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has advised Japan's Mitsui & Co. Ltd. on its US$20 million investment in a Series B funding round by Singapore's Campana Group.

The funding will be used by Campana to construct the largest high-speed data centre corridor between Singapore and Myanmar, with prebuilt connections for Thailand.

"This is typical of the increasing investment we're seeing in data and tech infrastructure in Asia, and in Southeast Asia in particular," said the firm's Asia Head of TMT Mark Robinson. "The new network will utilise submarine cables and land connections to meet the demand from Myanmar's rapid growth in online activity."

"We are very proud to advise Mitsui again, and of the scope of investments on which we have advised the company," said Graeme Preston, the firm's Head of Corporate in Japan. "In addition to technology, we have recently assisted with its 'new business' investments in healthcare, renewables, agribusiness and complex materials."

Mark and Graeme led the team advising Mitsui, assisted by senior associate James Hearne in Tokyo, and in Singapore by senior associates Victor Chiew, Peggy Chow and Mia Harrison-Kelf and associate Nang Su Wai.
