Eric Kong
Eric is a Solicitor in our Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) team in Sydney.
He advises clients on a broad range of complex projects in the technology, media and telecommunication sectors, including in relation to digital infrastructure, digital transformation, privacy and online safety regulations, cyber security and technology related M&A transactions. Eric’s work involves helping clients create value and minimise risk whilst navigating highly regulated environments.
As a key member of HSF’s Emerging Technology Group, Eric also has a keen interest in emerging technologies and associated issues, with a focus on immersive technologies. He speaks at various conferences and engagements on the legal aspects of immersive tech and the metaverse, including at Digital Transformation Live 2023 at the ICC Sydney, the ‘Metaverse: A potential force for good’ conference and HSF’s 2023 Digital Law Course on the Metaverse.
Eric's experience includes advising:
- the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Fund for the Pacific (AIFFP) on the procurement of subsea cable infrastructure and related capacity IRU arrangements
- the Western Parklands City Authority on the development of a multi-utility solution to service the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and, in particular, the telecommunications arrangements relevant to access and network deployment.
- Google on various fibre, colocation and subsea cable related agreements with telco service providers and submarine cable system suppliers in the APAC region
- a leading satellite operator in Thailand on its satellite procurement and capacity sharing arrangements with a major European satellite operator
- a national media company in relation to a large scale digital transformation project for its sales management capabilities, including design, build and DevOps arrangements with multiple vendors

Eric holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science (Pharmacology) from the University of Sydney.
