Murphy Mok

Murphy advises major Chinese and international clients on infrastructure and construction disputes and projects across Asia, Middle East, Europe, Africa, Australia and South America, with a focus on the power, oil and gas and transport sectors.  Murphy has extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, covering international arbitration under various institutional rules (including SIAC, ICC, HKIAC and VIAC), project life advisory and contract drafting and negotiations. 

Murphy's experience includes advising:

• a project consortium in a multi-billion SIAC arbitration concerning the construction of a refinery and petrochemical complex
• a Chinese SOE in a US$100 million SIAC arbitration under a share purchase agreement for an investment in the power sector
• a Chinese contractor in disputes involving a power plant project in the Middle East, providing full project lifecycle advice and handling related ICC arbitration
• Southeast Asian contractors for claims in excess of US$110 million in a VIAC arbitration relating to a processing plant project
• a Chinese SOE in a HKIAC arbitration involving claims arising from an oil and gas project in the Middle East
• a Chinese contractor on a wide range of disputes and project lifecycle issues in a US$5 billion hydropower project in Pakistan
• a Chinese engineering company on claims and project execution issues in a multi-billion LNG project in Russia
• a Chinese contractor on claims under various contracts for a regional high-speed railway project in Hong Kong

Background

Murphy is dual-qualified in England and Wales and Australia (New South Wales). He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese and advises clients in all three languages. Before relocating to Hong Kong, Murphy practised in Beijing, Shanghai and London.
