Angus specialises in commercial litigation with a focus on banking and financial services disputes.
Angus is a Senior Associate based in our Melbourne office.
Angus focused on delivering strong commercial outcomes and offers insight from his prior experience at a major law firm in Melbourne but also his time as a Senior Associate to a Judge in the Supreme Court of Victoria; a role which provided a unique opportunity to assist a judge of the highest level in Victoria (original jurisdiction), together with invaluable Court experience.
Angus advises banks on substantial pieces of litigation. He was a member of the team that represented the RBS Group in defending actions brought by shareholder and investor groups in connection with its 2008 rights issue – one of the highest profile pieces of litigation in the UK in recent times. He has also worked on a portfolio of High Court claims, defending a major UK bank from allegations of mis-selling interest rate hedging products.
Angus's experience includes advising:
- RBS Group in defending actions brought by shareholder and investor groups in connection with the Group's 2008 Rights Issue
- a major UK bank on a portfolio of claims arising out of the sale of interest rate hedging products
- a major investment bank in respect of criminal investigations conducted overseas and a Section 2 Notice issued by the SFO
- Member of the team that assisted with, and provided speaker notes for, the Sierra Leone Commercial Litigation Summit
Background
Angus holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University in Melbourne. He was admitted as an Australian Legal Practitioner in December 2011.
Before joining Herbert Smith Freehills in 2016, Angus worked as a lawyer at a major law firm in Melbourne and was the Senior Associate to the Honourable Justice Rush at the Supreme Court of Victoria.
