Aobakwe is an associate designate in the Finance, Real Estate and Project Finance (FREP) practice group in the Johannesburg office.
Aobakwe has acquired vast experience in various Project Finance matters, ranging from advising Preferred Bidders in the Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement Programme. As well as advising and assisting an international consortium, bid for the financing and construction of one of the largest express motorways in Africa.
Aobakwe's experience includes advising:
- Kampala Jinja Expressway – The transaction was collaborative effort between Herbert Smith Freehills' London and Johannesburg Finance teams, where Aobakwe worked as a part of the legal team that provided financial legal advice to Consortium in respect of the Project Agreement for the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of a prospective road in Uganda
- Project Rose – Part of the legal team assisting and advising Standard Bank with the acquisition of ROMPCO
- EDF Renewable Energies – Drafting various project documents related to the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme
